Why do I paint Displacement? I am exhausted of painting displacement. Nevertheless, displacement has become a haunting fact. We Sri Lankans have been tormented by ethnic conflict and bloody civil war for the last three decades. Most of the victims are people from north and eastern provinces. Including the survivors of the Tsunami people are displaced without any ethnic distinction. Not only in my country, but also in India, Thailand and Malaysia have similar crises. Children, parents, relatives are displaced from each other and live in temporary huts, in temples, in mosques and churches. Mt painting is a reminder and request to open their eyes towards the displaced people. It is an indication of the ethnic conflict and natural disasters – displacement.
